The ashes are safely sealed in a compartment underneath the vase portion of the urn. The seal on the top part of the timber disk is made to create only a slight suction to the vase portion. This is so if the urn is knocked, the vase portion will come off but the ashes portion will stay in tact. If this urn is smashed, the manufacturer offers replacement.
